The University first-level Master’s, aimed at creating the professional figure of “Expert in Religious Information within Contemporary Pluralism” and open to all university graduates, has been initiated within the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Siena and from this year also in collaboration with the University of Florence, with the patronage of the Council of S. Gimignano and the International Centre for Contemporary Religious Studies (CISRECO).
The specific educational aim of this Master’s is the creation of specialists in religious problematics as a socio-cultural fact together with the redefinition of a sense horizon, in a trans confessional optic and with an intercultural approach. It looks at the religious phenomenon in the Euro-Mediterranean area in its socio-political and cultural connections without neglecting the oriental religions (Hinduism and Buddhism).
The innovative character of the Master’s is the intention of examining the religious phenomenon from both within and beyond confessions and institutions and one very important aspect will be the personal involvement of the participants in international, pluri-cultural and pluri-religious workshops and in agencies of written and multimedial communication (with directors of magazines, newspapers, films, documentaries etc.)
Furthermore, as far as employment potential is concerned, given the present geopolitical relevance of religious factors, the use of experts in local institutions, means of communication, schools and in the area of professional training seems to be indispensable and no longer to be postponed. The success obtained with the first course of the Master’s carried out in 2005 confirms the accuracy of such a framework.
For the 2006 course of the Master’s, the adhesion of the University of Florence is planned through convention.
Organisation of teaching
The formative activities of the Master’s are organised in didactic modules articulated within the disciplinary areas foreseen (which include sociological, politico-ethno-anthropological, psychological and juridical
Disciplines as well as the area of Communication Science), and provide frontal lectures, workshops and work experiences, in accordance with a timetable which organises a concentration of the activities particularly at the weekend.

The Master’s is open to all university graduates.

Enrolment fees
The enrolment fee for the Master’s is Euro 2000.
Visiting students
It is possible to participate to the Master as visiting student for 3 months (February-April: 500 Euro) or for 6 months (February-July: 1000 Euro).
The participants will receive a certificate of attendance given by the CISRECO of San Gimignano.
